FISHING REPORT 2003
Date: Monday, September 15, 2003 at 17:07:50
Current Report: The trout fishing is great! A few weeks ago my cousin Jim, Fishing buddy/Pool Shark Ben and I left out of Packers Bay at 6:30 AM and headed to Dry Creek. We fished at 85 feet using shad-imitation lures and had multiple hook-ups within 10 minutes. After catching 10 rainbows averaging 1 1/2 -2 pounds we decided to move to Digger Bay to see if we could land bigger fish. Trolling from Digger Bay to the Dam we landed two trout weighing in at 3 pounds and 3.5 pounds
Last week my buddy and I decided to troll at one of my favorite spots between Marshmellow Point and the O'Brien Inlet. By using the same depth and lures we caught less fish, but we were proud of the 4 and 4.5 pound fish that anchored our 10 fish that we caught. I'll be fishing every Wednesday until the Trout Derby(October 11 & 12-you can register at ShastaLakeTroutDerby.com) so feel free to call or email about the pattern that I am using. Thanks for reading! David

Current Report: Last Saturday(June 7) Cheryl(My Wife) and I started fishing at 1:30 in the hot afternoon and in 1/2 hour we caught and released 7 nice spots that were hiding under trees in about 10 feet of water. Of course, Cheryl caught the first and largest so I had to settle for the most as part of the Triple Crown.
RIGHT NOW is the time to grab your fishing gear and hit the Lake!!
This coming Wednesday we're heading to Packer's Bay to hook up with Ben (Salmon Master) and we'll be trolling for salmon and trout which are putting on quite a show! I'll be using a Sling Blade with a red Cripplure and also a Rainbow Needlefish.
The catfish are starting to hit hard on flavored livers and anchovies.
Stop in at the Basshole and we'll set you up on location, depth and color of lures. Remember that all this changes weekly.
Good luck and looking forward to seeing you! Dave

Current Report: Basshole Bass Team Strikes Again!!
Randy (Guest at Tsasdi Resort), Kevin(Basshole Bar and Grill Mixologist) and I met at the Bait Shop at 5AM(Wed, June 4) and were fishing at 5:45 AM just south of the O'Brien Inlet. We were all using the Zoom Fat Albert Grub working rock walls on the main body of water. By 8:30 we had caught over 24 spotted bass 14"-16". Then we moved into the O'Brien Inlet and caught a total of 35 nice bass. When 10:30 AM rolled around we decided it was getting a little warm (96 degrees) and headed in. The largest ended up to be 17" caught by the Natural(Kevin). We released all the smallmouth(6) and kept 15 spots for a total weight of 23pounds. What a GREAT DAY had by all!

Current Report: I've received a whole bunch of e-mails about updating this report and PROMISE to update it every other week. The good news is that you have NOT missed a great bass bite. A few weeks back, the bite was coming on and all of a sudden we got hit with a COLD wet storm that dropped the water temperature from 57 degrees to 53.
Last weekend was our annual 4-day houseboat fishing trip. It was again cold and rainy. I caught the biggest bass, 16inches, and only limited out one day.
On Tuesday, May 6, a group out of Sugarloaf Cottages caught 84 bass. The weather report shows that by Mother's Day we will have lots of sun and 75 degrees and the water temperature will be between 58 and 60 degrees. As a result, the bass will be moving UP and OUT of the 25' water and will become very active. I am excited that a great bite should last for 7 weeks or longer. I'll be fishing several times a week so please stop in or call and I'll set you up on what I'm doing.
Right now, I'm still using the silver-black grub on a leadhead working rock walls. What's great about this method is the grub passes through the surface into 30 feet of water. Also, by working in the shade you cut down a lot of terrain.
The trout fishing has been good with lots of limits being taken. Troll with a slingblade followed by a white-silver cripplure or a rainbow needlefish smeared with shad smelly jelly at a depth of 25 feet. Elmore Bay, Slaughterhouse Island and in front of Digger Bay have been producing lots of good quality rainbows.
The lake is almost full and it is beautiful to see so great fishing to ya!
David
